To become Miss Georgia you must be a woman no younger than 18 as of September 1 and no older than 28 as of September 30 of the competition year, a United States citizen, single with no legal dependents, and connected to Georgia for the 120 consecutive days before you compete. You do not have to win a local title first. Since January 2025 the organization has run a Statewide Digital Competition that costs 75 dollars plus a 39.99 dollar annual subscription and lets you qualify from home with a resume, an essay, a talent video, and a virtual live interview. The separate Miss Georgia USA pageant, which feeds Miss Universe, has no upper age limit at all and accepts married women and mothers.
Those two organizations share the word "Georgia" and almost nothing else. Every year women apply to the wrong one, discover it three weeks before a deadline, and lose a cycle. This guide lays out what each one actually requires, checked in July 2026 against the state organizations' own eligibility pages and the Miss America Organization's published 2027 guidelines.
What are the requirements to be Miss Georgia?
Miss Georgia is the Georgia preliminary to Miss America, and it uses the national eligibility rules with a state residency layer on top. You must be female, a United States citizen, between 18 and 28 on the two qualifying dates, single, and carrying no legal dependents. You need 120 consecutive days of connection to Georgia, in reasonably good health for the job, and available for the time commitment the local, state and national competitions require.
There is no height requirement, no weight requirement, and no measurement check. Miss America dropped its swimsuit phase in 2018, so nobody is scored in a swimsuit at any level of this system. What replaced it is a health and fitness phase, and the heaviest phases by far are interview and talent.
What is the age limit for Miss Georgia?
The upper limit is 28, but the wording matters more than the number. For the 2027 cycle, delegates must be no older than 28 on September 30, 2027, and no younger than 18 on September 1, 2027. Two separate dates, two separate tests. A woman who turns 29 in October of the competition year is still eligible; a woman who turns 18 in the middle of September is not.
Check the exact dates the organization publishes for the year you plan to enter rather than assuming the pattern holds. Miss America updated its age guidelines in 2025, and the site that comes up first in a search is not always the current one. This is the single most common reason a Georgia application gets rejected before it is ever read.
How long do you have to live in Georgia to compete for Miss Georgia?
120 consecutive days before the date of competition, and you can satisfy it three different ways. Living in Georgia is the obvious one. You can also qualify through employment, by documenting full-time in-person work in the state of at least 40 hours a week held for those 120 consecutive days. Or you can qualify as a student, by being enrolled full time at an accredited college or university located in Georgia.
That third route is why so many Miss Georgia delegates come through university-based local titles. If you moved to Athens or Atlanta for school in August, you are eligible for the following summer's competition even though your driver's license still says another state.
Do you need a local title to compete for Miss Georgia?
No. Georgia lists roughly 25 local preliminaries built around counties, cities and universities, and winning one is the traditional route. But the state also runs a second door. If a local competition is not realistic for you, whether because of distance, cost, work schedule, or simply because none near you has an open date, the digital route exists specifically for that situation. The organization states that any candidate who has not won a local competition is encouraged to register.
What is the Miss Georgia Statewide Digital Competition?
It is an at-home qualifying route the Miss Georgia organization launched in January 2025, and its stated purpose is to reach young women who may not consider competing for a local program for various reasons. You submit in two parts: paperwork with videos, then a virtual live interview.
The scoring is published and it is worth planning around:
- Resume with a 30-second introductory video: 15 percent
- Social Impact Initiative essay: 15 percent
- 90-second talent video: 35 percent
- Virtual live interview: 35 percent
Talent and interview together carry 70 percent of your result. The essay and the resume video, which are the two pieces most applicants over-polish, are worth 30 percent combined. Candidates selected through the digital route attend the Miss Georgia Forum, held March 1 to 3 in Columbus, and then pay the state competition fee.
How much does it cost to enter Miss Georgia?
The digital competition lists 75 dollars, plus the 39.99 dollar annual Miss America subscription fee, which the organization states is non-refundable. So the published entry number is about 115 dollars.
That is not the real number. Add the state competition fee if you advance, travel and hotel for the Miss Georgia Forum in Columbus in March, and then competition week itself in June. Add a competition gown, an interview outfit, headshots, and coaching if you use it. Local preliminaries have their own entry fees on top, and most local programs attach fundraising requirements. Miss Georgia vs Miss Georgia USA: which one can you enter?
This is the comparison that decides most applications, because the same woman is often eligible for one and barred from the other.

The short version: if you are over 28, married, divorced, or a mother, Miss Georgia USA is your only route of the two. What are the Miss Georgia USA requirements?
Miss Georgia USA is directed by Greenwood Productions and takes applications straight to the state pageant, which is held in McDonough. You must be 18 or older with no upper age limit, a United States citizen, recognized medically and legally as female in the United States, and a Georgia resident for at least 90 days before the competition.
Note that 90 days is a full month less than the Miss America side asks for. If you moved to Georgia recently, there is a real window where you are eligible for one and not the other. Can you compete for Miss Georgia if you are married or have children?
Not on the Miss America side. Miss Georgia requires contestants to be single with no legal dependents, and that has not changed. Miss USA is the one that moved: it repealed the rule barring women over 28 and opened the Miss division to married women, divorced women, and mothers. So a 34-year-old mother in Savannah can compete for Miss Georgia USA this year and cannot compete for Miss Georgia at all.
Both teen divisions remain closed to married contestants and mothers in either system.
Where is the Miss Georgia pageant held?
Columbus, Georgia. The Miss Georgia Scholarship Competition runs at the Bill Heard Theatre inside the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in historic Uptown Columbus, and the 81st edition was held there from June 17 to 20, 2026. Sophia Wootten, representing Northwest Georgia, was crowned Miss Georgia 2026, with Melony Tidmore taking the teen title.
Miss Georgia USA is a separate organization and holds its state pageant in McDonough, southeast of Atlanta. If you are budgeting hotel nights, the two systems put you in completely different parts of the state.
How much scholarship money does Miss Georgia award?
More than 85,000 dollars in scholarships were awarded across Miss Georgia competition week in 2026. That figure is the total for the week, spread across titleholders, runners-up, preliminary award winners, and non-finalist awards, not a single check handed to one person. Treat any number you see quoted as "the Miss Georgia scholarship" with suspicion unless the organization published it that year.
Scholarship money is the strongest practical argument for the Miss America side if you qualify for both. Miss USA and its state preliminaries are built on a different model, with prize packages and appearance opportunities rather than education awards.
Is there a height requirement for Miss Georgia?
No. Neither Miss Georgia nor Miss Georgia USA publishes a minimum or a maximum height, and contestants are not measured to qualify. The 5 foot 7 figure people repeat comes from runway modeling agencies, not pageant rulebooks. A small independent pageant in Atlanta is free to write its own rule, so read that pageant's own eligibility page, but the two state systems have none. What first-time Georgia applicants get wrong
Three things, consistently.
The first is reading an old rule set. Miss America updated its age guidelines in 2025 and dropped swimsuit in 2018, and pages describing both still rank well. Before you build a plan around any requirement, check the year printed on the page you are reading.
The second is assuming the digital route is a consolation prize. It is not scored more leniently, and its talent and interview weighting is heavier than what many local preliminaries use. A 90-second talent video that you can re-record until it is right is arguably a friendlier format than one live shot on a local stage.
The third is treating the two organizations as interchangeable when planning a timeline. Miss Georgia local preliminaries run through the fall and winter, the Forum is in early March, and the state competition is in June. Miss Georgia USA runs on its own calendar entirely. Get judged experience before you apply
Both Georgia systems reward women who have already been scored by a panel, and the digital route in particular rewards women who are comfortable on camera.
