Beauty Pageants in Arkansas: Miss Arkansas Requirements, Miss Arkansas USA and How to Enter
Arkansas is the only state in this series with a law on the books about who may run a beauty pageant at all. On top of that, its two main systems disagree about how long you have to have lived here and about whether there is an upper age limit. Here is which door is open to you, what each route costs, and the rules each organization publishes in its own words.

What beauty pageants can you enter in Arkansas?
Arkansas has two title systems that lead to a national final and a layer of independent pageants underneath them. Miss Arkansas is the Miss America preliminary: it takes women no older than 28 on September 30, 2027 and no younger than 18 on September 1, 2027, asks for 120 consecutive days of Arkansas residency, and paid its 2026 winner a $30,000 scholarship. Miss Arkansas USA is the Miss USA preliminary, run by Vanbros and Associates from Shawnee, Kansas: it takes anyone born in 2007 or earlier with no upper age limit and asks for only 90 days of residency. Independent pageants such as National American Miss and Regency International also operate here. One thing separates Arkansas from every other state on this site: under Arkansas Code Annotated sections 17-21-101 and following, no person may conduct a beauty pageant in Arkansas unless registered with the Department of Finance and Administration, and a registered operator must file an approved $10,000 bond.

Arkansas regulates who may run a pageant, and requires a $10,000 bond
The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration publishes the rule plainly: "No person shall conduct a beauty pageant in Arkansas unless registered with the Department." The applicable statutes are Arkansas Code Annotated sections 17-21-101 et seq. A registered operator must also "file and have approved by the Department of Finance and Administration, a bond in which the candidate for registration shall be the principal obligator in the amount of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00)". Civic clubs that have existed a year or more, nonprofits, religious organizations, local government bodies, schools and their affiliates are exempt from bonding, as are operators whose continuing primary function is running an annual statewide talent and beauty pageant. The practical use is simple: if a for-profit promoter is asking you for an entry fee in Arkansas, that bond is the thing standing between you and a cancelled event, and you are entitled to ask whether they are registered.
The two routes ask for different amounts of Arkansas residency
Miss Arkansas asks for "proof of residence in the state of the competition for at least 120 consecutive days of residency prior to the date of competition", with full-time college enrollment or full-time in-person Arkansas employment for 120 consecutive days as the alternatives. Miss Arkansas USA asks for 90 days, or one full semester, trimester or summer session as a full-time student, or full-time employment defined as "at least forty (40) hours per week". If you moved to Arkansas within the last four months, one route may already be closed to you while the other is open. Count the days before you pay anything.
Losing the Miss Arkansas USA state final locks you out of other states for 90 days
This clause sits in the Miss Arkansas USA eligibility paperwork and almost nobody quotes it: "If I do not win the State Pageant, and I intend to establish Permanent and primary residency in another state, I may not compete in another state's pageant preliminary to the 2026 Miss USA Pageant for a period of at least ninety (90) consecutive days after the date of the State Pageant." Entrants who plan to move and try a second state in the same cycle need to read that sentence before they book anything.
The marriage and motherhood bar applies to the teen title, not the Miss title
On the Miss Arkansas USA eligibility page the line "Must not be married, never have been married, and never have had a marriage annulled. Must never have given birth to a child, can not be pregnant or be a parent" sits under the MISS ARKANSAS TEEN USA DELEGATES heading. It is not listed under the Miss Arkansas USA delegate requirements, which carry only two lines: born in 2007 or before, and never having competed at a national Miss USA pageant. Arkansas is the third state in this series where we have read that placement directly, after Kentucky and Oklahoma, and the second run by Vanbros. Most directory listings state the opposite.

Four steps, in the order that saves you the most money.
Check your age against both routes
Miss Arkansas publishes, word for word, "Miss contestants must be no older than 28 on September 30, 2027 and no younger than 18 on September 1, 2027". Both dates fall in the same cycle year, which is worth noting because several state organizations in this series publish two different years in the same sentence. Miss Arkansas USA publishes a single line, "Must have been born during the year 2007 or before", and no upper limit at all. If you are 29 or older, one route is closed and the other is wide open.
Count your residency days, then pick the route that fits
The Miss America route wants 120 consecutive days in Arkansas, full-time enrollment at an accredited college or university, or full-time in-person Arkansas employment for 120 consecutive days. The Miss USA route wants 90 days, a full academic term as a full-time student, or 40 hours a week of Arkansas employment held for 90 days. Students at the University of Arkansas, Arkansas State, UCA, Ouachita Baptist or Hendrix generally qualify on the enrollment clause for both.
Win a local title, or take the at-large route
The usual path to Miss Arkansas is winning one of the local competitions, the way Ava Weeks did as Miss Southwest Arkansas. Other local titles reported in the 2026 cycle include Miss Greater Little Rock, Miss Greater Jacksonville, Miss University of Central Arkansas and Miss Arkansas Delta. Miss Arkansas also runs an at-large route: candidates may "apply at the end of competition season to be an At-Large Contestant", which the organization opens when it needs to fill the remaining spots. Miss Arkansas USA requires no local title at all, only the state application.
Verify the operator before you send money
This step is specific to Arkansas and it is the reason the state law exists. Before paying an entry fee to any pageant here that is not one of the two established state systems, confirm the operator is registered with the Department of Finance and Administration and bonded, or falls into one of the published exemptions. It costs you one email and it is the only consumer protection of its kind we have found in the twenty-five states covered on this site.
Who enters
Arkansas, Slavic heritage and this pageant
Arkansas has something no other state in this series has: a town literally named Slovak. Slovak, in Prairie County, was founded in 1894 after the Slovak Colonization Company of Pennsylvania bought 3,000 acres of Arkansas land to settle Slovak families on it. Twenty-five families arrived at the site, then called Slovactown, in the fall of 1894. Most were farmers and coal miners who had struggled in the industrial northeast and wanted land of their own. The community held on, and its Slovak heritage is still the thing the town is known for. Twelve miles north of Little Rock, in Pulaski County, sits Marche, settled by Polish immigrants leaving the same northern industrial towns. The Encyclopedia of Arkansas describes Marche as one of the most successful efforts to resettle immigrants in the state's history. Neither community is large and neither is famous outside Arkansas, which is exactly why they matter here. If your family name came through one of them, or through the Czech, Slovak and Polish households that the state's immigrant history map records across the Arkansas Delta and the river valley, you are eligible to represent that country in this pageant. There is no residency clause, no local title to win first, no age ceiling, and no entry fee. The honest version: if you are under 28, can perform, and want scholarship money, Miss Arkansas pays more than anything else on this list and nothing here replaces it. If you are over 28, married, or a mother, Miss Arkansas USA and the independent Mrs divisions are your stage routes. This pageant is not a substitute for either of those. It is the option with no fee, no season and no age ceiling, and it is the one you can start tonight.

That matches the national Miss America range. Both dates fall in the same cycle year, which is not true of every state organization in this series. The teen title is a separate competition with its own younger band.
No. The published rule for Miss Arkansas USA delegates is one line, "Must have been born during the year 2007 or before", which sets a minimum age and no maximum. The teen title is bounded at both ends, "Must have been born during the years of 2007-2011". So the teen route really is age-capped and the Miss route is not, which is the standard structure Miss USA state producers use.
Yes. The rule barring married women and mothers appears only under the Miss Arkansas Teen USA heading on the official eligibility page, not under the Miss Arkansas USA delegate requirements. Those requirements list only a birth year and a no-previous-national-pageant clause. Nationally, Justus Kelley won Miss USA in August 2026 as a married mother, which settled the question at the top of the system.
